What comes next for Xbox?

The next generation of Xbox is officially on the horizon. Microsoft has confirmed that it’s actively developing new Xbox hardware — but this time, it might not look like the traditional console we’re used to.

Xbox president Sarah Bond recently told fans that the company’s upcoming device will represent “a very premium, high-end next-gen console experience.” She also emphasized that Microsoft’s vision for Xbox is evolving beyond a single box under the TV. The goal, according to Bond, is an “Xbox experience not locked to one store or tied to one device.”

That’s backed up by a newly announced multi-year partnership with AMD to co-engineer custom silicon across multiple platforms — including consoles, handhelds, and cloud devices. This points to an ecosystem approach, where the next Xbox could work seamlessly with PCs and other hardware rather than exist as a standalone machine.

Microsoft hasn’t revealed specs, pricing, or a release window yet, but industry insiders suggest the next console is targeting a 2027 launch. The company has also reassured players that it’s not moving away from physical hardware, despite the push toward cloud gaming and Game Pass integration.

If anything, the next Xbox looks poised to blur the line between console and platform. Expect more power, smarter AI integration, and tighter cross-device support — all part of Microsoft’s mission to make Xbox less of a product and more of a play-anywhere ecosystem.
