Popular Amazon game receives update after layoffs

“New World: Aeternum” will no longer receive any major updates, with Amazon games saying “the recently launched season 10 and Nighthaven update will serve as the final content release.” Officials say this will be for both PC and console.

This news follows information reported by GameSprytes on October 28th, about mass layoffs at Amazon – with many impacting the company’s gaming division.

Originally launched in 2021, “New World: Aeternum” became one of the most played games on Steam, with more than 900-thousand concurrent players at its peak.

The studio says despite no new content coming to the game, it does not plan to shut down the servers and work will still be done to keep the game working smoothly. It also says that world bosses, bonus weeks and occasional seasonal events will continue, but it will stop doing holiday events.

Amazon Games says it will provide more information on the game’s future in the coming months, but it hopes to keep it running throughout 2026. However it says “provide a minimum of six months’ notice before making any changes that impact your ability to play.”

In the meantime – “New World: Aeternum” will still be available for gamers to purchase on the PlayStation store, the Xbox store, and the Steam stores until further notice. The game is also free for players on PlayStation paying for Plus (Extra & Premium).
