The joint project between Crystal Dynamics and Amazon Games for “Tomb Raider” is still moving forward. This is despite Amazon announcing more than 14-thousand layoffs across the company on October 28th. Many of those layoffs are impacting Amazon Games.
Amazon is continuing to shift its priorities to Amazon Luna – the studio’s cloud gaming platform, among some other smaller projects. However, in a memo to Amazon employees, Vice President of Audio Twitch & games at Amazon – Steve Boom – says the company is planning to keep working with third-party companies.
Among these companies is Crystal Dynamics, which is making the new “Tomb Raider” game. Boom referenced Crystal Dynamics directly, as well as Maverick Games – which is working with Amazon on an open world driving game.
Details are still limited at this time for the new “Tomb Raider” game, but Amazon Games has confirmed the game is a single-player game and will be using the Unreal Engine 5. Officials have also said that Laura Croft’s outfit will combine her look from the Survivor trilogy and the original games.
There is currently no time table on when the new “Tomb Raider” game will release.
