The Pokemon Company has announced that its latest entry in the acclaimed series, “Pokemon Legends: Z-A,” has sold more than 5.8 million copies in its first week. Officials at Nintendo say around half of those sales were for the Switch 2.
Comparatively, “Pokemon Scarlet” and “Pokemon Violet” sold around 10 million copies during the first week of the generation 9 games. Meanwhile the previous legends game, “Pokemon Legends: Arceus,” sold 6.5 million copies in its debut week. All three games released back in 2022.
Officials say it’s the lowest sales for the mainline series of Pokemon games since 2018’s “Pokemon: Let’s go Pikachu” and “Pokemon: Let’s go Eevee.” However, the game did surpass “Battlefield 6” for game sales in Europe, and has done well in sales comparatively to other games.
“Pokemon Legends: Z-A” is the second in the Pokemon Legends series, and serves as a follow up to 2013’s “Pokemon X” and “Pokemon Y.” This version of the game takes place in the Kalos region’s Lumiose City. It’s the first Pokemon game to onl take place in one city.
