Streaming giant Netflix has announced it’s shutting down one of its gaming assets, Boss Fight Entertainment.
Originally acquired in 2022, the video game production company was the force behind mobile game “Squid Game Unleashed,” while also working on the “Neflix Stories” games. Officials say both products will still be available for players.
The move comes as Netflix continues to change its gaming aspirations, as it continues to move toward making more party and kids games.
Netflix Games Chief Alain Tascan joined the the company in 2024, and has hinted Netflix is looking to move away from mobile gaming, hoping to expand its games playable on tv.
At the time of its release, “Squid Game Unleashed” was the number one free action game in more than 100 different countries. Netflix CEO Greg Peters said last week, during an earnings call, that it wants to create more games similar to the success of “Squid Game Unleashed.”
The decision to close Boss Fight follows Netlifx’s decision to close its AAA game studio, Blue, last year before it ever released a game.
