The long-rumoured current-gen versions of Red Dead Redemption 2 are reportedly still on the way. According to reliable insider NateTheHate, the upgraded ports for modern consoles not only “exist” but are still planned for release.
Talk of enhanced editions for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and even the Nintendo Switch 2 has been circulating since 2022. The speculation gained more credibility earlier this year when the same leaker reaffirmed that Rockstar Games was actively preparing updated versions of its acclaimed open-world western.
While a few misleading hints — including one from a voice actor — have caused confusion in recent months, NateTheHate maintains that the project is real and moving forward.
Given Rockstar’s reputation for dropping announcements without warning, a surprise release remains entirely possible. The studio has a history of low-key reveals, such as the PS4 version of Red Dead Redemption, which was announced on August 7th, 2023, and launched just 10 days later. Likewise, both GTA 6 trailers arrived unexpectedly.
Currently, Red Dead Redemption 2 is playable on PS5 through backward compatibility, but it remains limited to 30 frames per second and a lower resolution compared to its performance on Xbox Series X. A true native port could finally bring the visual and performance upgrades fans have been waiting for.
Considering NateTheHate’s solid record with industry leaks, there’s little reason to doubt his latest claims. If Rockstar decides to make the move, an official announcement — and perhaps even a quick release — could come sooner than expected.
Would you saddle up for another ride through Red Dead Redemption 2 if a PS5, Xbox Series X/S version dropped?
